Writer wants a communist U.S.

In response to the recent offering to the editorial page on Aug. 23, I'd have to say that this is the most disturbing letter ever published, due to its communist/socialist content.

The writer says that we must accept the fact that "parts of the American dream are no longer feasible, and everyone must be gracious enough to live without them." Are you trying to say that we should give up our hopes and dreams in order to realize your vision of a communist America? Well, we say no!

You also mentioned that women must not have more than "one" child. Look, if the one-child policy can cause a potential population imbalance in the People's Republic of China, the same can be said for all nations. Well, I say no!

If I do have a wife in the future and she wants a child, I'd be more than happy to give her as many as she wants. After all, I'm looking forward to becoming a father myself.

Oh, and one more thing: If one day your dream comes into fruition, I will lead everyone in this nation in a revolt against you, and win. That's my promise, and I will keep it.

Fight all utility hikes in W.Va.

As a West Virginia Silver Haired Legislature representative in Cabell County and a Christian, it is my business and concern for my fellow West Virginians and business people that their well-being be the best for them and their families and employers.

I was elected in July as one of 14 to help seniors, the poor and others. We oppose utility rate hikes. The electric company got its rate increase of 11.26 percent approved on June 26.

West Virginians can't afford utility rate increases!

The Mountaineer Gas Co. is asking for a $60-a-month rate increase. They don't need it! "The love of money is the root of all evil."

Call the Public Service Commission since you oppose the increase. Residents can call, too. Call 800-642-8544 Monday through Friday from 9 am. to 5 p.m. Thank you. We have a petition against the gas increases. Protest all utility hikes. West Virginians can't afford them.

Get ready for the coming Kingdom

In a few short months, we will be casting our votes for the new president of our great country -- the United States of America. I thank God for our country, but with sadness I know it, too, will fall like other great empires before it. The Romans, great Egypt, even Alexander the Great all saw the end of their cultures in the fullness of time.

As I pondered this, my heart filled with joy at the thought of the future Kingdom coming to Earth very, very soon. No, its not the Illumanati or the Bilderberg, but the Kingdom of Jesus Christ. Too often, Jesus is confused with a religious belief, when in fact he was born a king to rule over a kingdom or government. His governor of nations, the Holy Spirit, is here now colonizing and accepting applications for citizenship in this new world order.

If you are interested in learning about this king, his history, his laws or his culture, he sent a citizenship book ahead of him. It's His word, the Holy Bible.

Unlike a democracy, in a kingdom, you do not vote. The king's will is done.

Time draws near, and you will either accept the king and his government or you will choose treason and rebel against him. In all great empires, this crime was punishable by death. Choose this day whom you will serve. Repent; the Kingdom of Heaven is at hand.

There's hope on America's horizon

November 20, 2008 @ 11:00 PM

Please hear the ruminations of a geezer. It's hard to be 80 and not think about dying too soon and, thereby, missing out on what in the world is about to happen next.

"The Glass Menagerie" - A Review

November 20, 2008 @ 10:45pm

The Glass Menagerie is a show that gets staged a lot, especially by high schools across the country, and there are lots of reasons for that. It uses a small cast, requires only a minimal set, and it's a moving and thought-provoking show. But to really experience the power of Tennesseee Williams' classic story, you need to...
