Rahall and Manchin ignore public's will
I want to admit a mistake I made for voting for Nick J. Rahall for U.S. House of Representatives. I didn't know he had obsession for having our mountains continuing to be destroyed, our waters polluted and coalfield communities turned into wasteland.
He is just like Gov. Joe Manchin, who cares nothing about the people being oppressed, threatened by mountaintop removal and coal company thugs. The majority of West Virginians are against mountaintop removal, but Nick J. Rahall and Joe Manchin continue to ignore public outcry.
People should have a right to a healthy community. Is this true freedom for the people in this state who are affected by mountaintop removal, that they are threatened, put down and called extremists?
The real extremists are Nick J. Rahall and Joe Manchin, who don't care about our mountains, water, air quality, people's health and well being. They have the power to stop mountaintop removal.
I am asking the people of our state: Our government is your government; what are you going to do about it?

Bailey has plans to improve city
As Cabell County Commissioner, Bob Bailey has always been supportive of economic development. As mayor, Bob plans to streamline the permitting process for new construction and remodeling projects within the city by making it user-friendly to homeowners and contractors.
Bob has also pledged to clean up our city streets and alleys that have become overrun with trash and high weeds. Additionally, Bob has promised to make street repair a high priority on his "to do" list.
During his time as sheriff, Bob made fighting illegal drugs and crime his top law enforcement priority. As mayor, it will be his duty to see that Huntington is once again safe, and he will work diligently to increase the number of police officers to combat the ever-increasing drug trade within the city.
Bob has a good working relationship with all government agencies, and his experience as city councilman and mayor will enable him to work closely with council members and other elected officials throughout the state. Bob understands the necessity of cooperation.
Bob and I had the pleasure of co-chairing Gov. Joe Manchin's successful campaign for governor, and the close personal relationship that Bob and the governor have is sure to pay dividends.
I urge all citizens of Huntington to vote to move Huntington forward and vote for Bob Bailey for mayor.

U.S. is no longer the best country
America is supposed to be the best country to live in. Why then do you see people at the gas stations getting $3 worth of gas because that's all they can afford? People at the grocery stores trying to figure out how much food they can afford to feed their families?
President Bush says that this country is not in a recession; maybe he doesn't know what a recession is. It seems only the rich can afford to eat and drive. Why doesn't the government step in and do something instead of trying to tell people how to raise their children?
My opinion: "Not the best country to live in."

Imbibe at home, stay off the roads
I am writing this letter concerning the major problem of the people driving under the influence of alcohol. People say they want to get a buzz. But that buzz costs innocent people their lives. People with multiple DUIs still drive. It should be a mandatory one year in jail for a first offense and life in prison without parole thereafter.
Also, alcohol causes many domestic violence situations that also lead to death. So if you need the liquid courage, do it at home and leave us innocent people alone.
