Cutting fire staff won’t save money
I am writing regarding the cuts in the Huntington Fire Department budget. The mayor’s office tried to fix things by letting the guys work understaffed. That’s not going to work. I say this because someone is going to get hurt or killed. This won’t save any money, because there will be lawsuits to pay to families of fallen men and/or injured or killed victims of the fires because of their inability to respond to the call appropriately.

Paint floodwall but do not remove it
I have lived in Huntington, with the exception of my military time, for more than 70 years and listened to what my parents and grandparents said about what it was like here a hundred years ago. I remember in the 1940s the river being way up on the earth floodwall in the West End of Huntington. The Ohio River can be as its Indian name — beauty — but it can be our worst enemy, and I don’t want to hear that was before the locks and dams.
Fourpole Creek didn’t used to flood the South Side, but after it was cleaned out and made deeper, it does. Paint art work on our floodwall, but don’t remove it for a makeshift floodwall. If it’s not broke, don’t fix it.

Blackface isn’t needed in movie
I cannot believe an actor in this day and age would do blackface in a film. It was disgraceful back then when actors and actresses did blackface, and it is also disgraceful nowadays. I am sure it will be offputting to many people. I think Robert Downey Jr. chose the role in “Tropic Thunder” simply to hang out with Ben Stiller and Jack Black.

Why not a school and baseball field?
If the Cabell County Board of Education is looking at the site adjacent to the Tech Center for a possible site for the new Enslow Middle School, then how about the Memorial Field House site for the Marshall baseball stadium?
Seems like this would be killing two birds with one stone. This would be good for Marshall, because the field house is very near campus and the property owned by Marshall near the Tech Center could be used for the school site.
