Couple grateful for positive news
We wish to comment and say thank you on the newspaper coverage and local TV station news regarding Huntington Police Department Detective Chris Sperry and his wife, who restored the stolen baby Jesus figurine and returned it to the proper place in the Nativity scene.
During this time of the year, it seems sad and tragic news is all around us with unhappy people and events. It is refreshing to see a police officer take pride in this case and as Mr. Sperry said, "It was the right thing to do."
We wish more folks would think that way.

Help with ban on semiautomatics
Like most everyone else, I was horrified by the killing of little children at an elementary school in Newtown, Conn. What happened is almost impossible to understand or explain.
Some think the answer is to identify those at risk and provide counseling to them. Others think parents should do a better job raising their children. While both ideas have merit, implementation is difficult at best.
The real solution is to ban semiautomatic weapons. A bolt-action rifle or a revolver will provide you with all the home security you need. With this approach we won't need to worry about whether someone has a 30-round magazine or a 10-round magazine. Gun makers could design weapons to look like an AK-47 and that would be just fine. The bolt action would prevent rapid fire.
Some say they need semiautomatic weapons to protect themselves from the government. This is crazy. To protect yourself from federal troops, you'd need some howitzers and a tank in your garage.
We are protected from unjust actions by the government because we live under the rule of law. The local sheriff cannot lock me up or confiscate my personal property based on a whim.
