GOP should toss out Tea Party members

I have a suggestion for the Republican Party.

Since the Tea Party has made it clear that it will oppose and try to "knock off" any reasonable Republicans who are capable of supporting reasonable tax adjustments, and timely response to natural disasters like Hurricane Sandy, why not just throw the Tea Party bums out?

Refuse to admit them to the party caucus. Force them to form their own political party. Treat them as they wish to be treated.

Traditional Republicans who are conservative but not completely berserk should rid their party of these political maniacs.

Make them stand alone as they want to. Make them compete on the political scale as a true independent party.

Tribute to coach was long overdue

As a former player for Coach Carl York, I just wanted to take a minute to reflect on Coach York and the recent honor bestowed on this fine gentleman by the Fairland School District.

Unfortunately, I didn't attend this ceremony and I deeply regret not doing so! I apologize to the York family for not being there to help them honor this great husband and father and to my fellow alumni for not being there to honor this great teacher and coach.

I was lucky enough to play for Mr. York from 1960 to 1964, and I can personally testify to the character, integrity, and competitiveness of this man. He was what we all aspired to be and what we all wanted our sons to be as well.

He taught us that winning was better than losing and how to do both with dignity and class.

Anyone who ever played for him knew exactly what he wanted from you, and we all strived very hard for his approval.

Rarely, if ever, would he raise his voice, but he had this little boyish grin about him that, when aimed at you in disapproval, made you want to find a hole and jump in it.

In conclusion, I just wanted to personally thank those who made this happen.

Indeed, it was long overdue to a man who impacted more young folks in such a positive and constructive way!
