Twist on birthday party collects items for animal shelter
Recently I attended the neatest birthday party in Huntington. In lieu of gifts, the guest of honor requested that donations be made to the Huntington Cabell Wayne Animal Shelter. It was absolutely wonderful. Instead of the requisite trinkets that one typically observes at such events, the home overflowed with dog food (more than 400 pounds), collars, leashes, towels and cleaning supplies.
The generous 40 attendees shared stories of taking in every stray dog and cat as children and warm tales of all the good work the shelter is accomplishing. I got the feeling this wouldn't be the last of such parties to benefit the shelter in Huntington, and I can only hope the desserts are equally delicious!
Jenkins is right for US Congress
Senator Jenkins is running for Congress, and he has my support. He has tackled many of the most difficult challenges our state has faced and has served the voters well. We can see examples of his hard work throughout our area.
He made sure we got the Route 2 connector completed, secured state funding for the construction of Pullman Square, had the 5th Avenue bridge to Guyandotte replaced and put money into our local senior organization to help construct and repair our senior centers throughout Cabell and Wayne counties. He also cares about highway safety and has pushed for years for the widening of I-64 that is now being done, which I think we can all certainly appreciate.
Senator Jenkins has worked hard and the results show.
