Keep bridge clean all year round
Kudos to the West Virginia Division of Highways. Although my wife and I live in Proctorville, Ohio, we travel to Huntington quite often to shop, do business, go to entertainment events and attend church.
Usually, we travel across the east Huntington bridge. What a delight it has been the past few days to travel a span that is clean and very attractive. When it's spruced up, the bridge has to be at the top of the list of things to see on either side of the river. At night when the structure is fully lit, it is a sight to behold. On the other hand, when the litter begins to pile up, it's something to be ashamed of. Unfortunately, too many times there's more of the latter than the former.
We want to thank the Division of Highways for the great job it did recently removing litter and weeds from the entire length of the bridge. We do have one suggestion. We encourage DOH officials to clean the span a little more often. Of course, ideally, we would change the culture, so motorists would not throw their trash out vehicle windows. We believe a few well placed video cameras would catch the culprits and a few well publicized fines for those found guilty would dramatically reduce the number of incidents.
Some friends of ours from Florida were in our home recently for a visit. Traveling across the bridge they were thoroughly impressed with its style and beauty. Our goal should be a clean bridge year round.
We in Operation TLC support your efforts wholeheartedly. Again, thank you very much.
