Mayor, city, make good first step in stormwater plan
I want to applaud Mayor Williams, the Sanitary Board and City Council for their efforts to cure the flooding problems of Huntington.
The problems started with the combining of sewage and storm water in our sewers over 100 years ago. It was a well-intended effort to reduce sewer odors and to clean the sewers when large quantities of storm water flowed into the Ohio River. However, that meant the Ohio River was being contaminated and that is not acceptable to us or the EPA.
To solve the problems today is a large undertaking that we are now addressing. It starts with the acknowledgment that this is our (the residents of Cabell/Wayne counties) problem. We must take steps, even small ones at first, to separate the sewers and upgrade them in areas like 3rd and 5th avenues, the underpasses, South Side, etc. To do this requires revenue and no one likes new fees, but $7.15/ month is a small amount to pay for better health, improved safety in times of flooding and proof to the DEP and EPA that we are trying to solve the problems before they decide to start fining us $25,000 a day. They might even consider helping us with grants and loan guarantees.
We have bit the bullet, and our children and grandchildren will thank us for having the courage and foresight to solve our sewer problems.

Boehner's rhetoric is hard to take
It's difficult to get over statements from a true fizzler like Speaker Boehner. Now he's a fizzler all right. So far this year, he has blamed President Obama for about everything. Boehner is beginning to look remarkably like Wile E Coyote and has even spurted donkey ears like Rush Limbaugh.
I couldn't think of myself as a conservative or a tea partier and don't have the gaul to have such a title attached to my name.
Can you imagine how stupid it is for American conservatives to complain about South Americans traveling to the great United States for food and protection and those morons on the border wanting to turn them around? You know who would turn in their graves at such disgust? George Washington, James Madison, John F. Kennedy and others. Why Jesus Christ would even wince and say, bring a couple of fish and I'll feed them. Of course he was our greatest liberal.
Why, Boehner couldn't even wipe the shores of Lyndon Johnson, who was truly a great speaker and president. This conservative crap makes me want to puke.
Now a smart American doesn't fizzle all day and call the president a liar and you don't allow yourself to compliment conservative thought. It's like jumping into a bag full of rattlesnakes.
