The League of Women Voters reminds citizens of the following points regarding the Cabell County Board of Education election.

The election is nonpartisan, so May 13 is the final election.

Candidates must run from one of the five county system districts, but voters may choose any candidate. Voters are not restricted to voting just for candidates from their own district.

No more that two members may be elected from any district.

The two seats up for election will be won by the highest vote getters unless one of those candidates falls to the two-per-district rule. For example, in District 2 Bennie Thomas currently serves on the board, therefore, only one of the candidates, Suzanne Oxley or Jerry Brewster, can be elected.

The breakdown of serving members and candidates by district follows.

District 1: No member or candidates.

District 2: Bennie Thomas is a current member of the board. Candidates: Suzanne Oxley, Jerry Brewster.

District 3: No serving member. Candidates: Larry Carrico, Albert Clark.

District 4: Greg Borowski is a current member. Candidates: Ted Barr, Nancy Newfeld, Garland "Skip" Parsons.

District 5: Bessie Holley is a current member. Candidate: George Watson.

Note that both candidates from District 3 can be elected, as can the one candidate from District 5. However only one can be elected from District 2 or District 4.
