C-K coaches teach good sportsmanship

I would like to respond to Mr. Rick Shepard's unfair and "mean spirited" comments about the C-K youth coaches recently. I have two children playing in that league and know first-hand the life lessons these coaches teach their players every day. Appreciation and respect for others, discipline, self-control, perseverance, teamwork, responsibility and pride are just a few that come to mind. Isn't that what sportsmanship is?

I am thankful my children have such decent, positive role models in their lives. Maybe several of the Fairland coaches and parents should attend a workshop focusing on how to lose with grace and dignity before next football season.

Thank you to all C-K coaches and players for making this year so special and WONDERful! We live in a great community full of great people!

Gov't will make health care worse

We're hearing a lot about President Obama's health care reform. I have no idea what the outcome of the present debate will be, but I'm quite sure of one thing: With government management two things are certain: the price will go up and the quality will go down. Several examples follow:

U.S. Postal Service: first class mail, 3 cents; now, 44 cents.

Social Security Tax: 1-percent on $3,000 earned income; now 7.65 percent on $106,800 earned income.

Health care costs: 1965 percent of the GDP, 6 percent; 2008 after Medicare, 16 percent; 2018 projected, 20 percent.

Reform: Reduce government payment 10 percent a year for the next 5 years then take another look.
