This gallery also includes former employees from the 2000s.

On Sunday, Jan. 17, 1909, the first edition of The Herald-Dispatch hit the streets in Huntington, and we are celebrating the 100th anniversary of that event in 2009.

Check out our 100 Years site at http://www.herald-dispatch.com/specialsections/100years, and be sure to pick up a copy of our 100th Anniversary Commemorative Edition on Saturday, Jan. 17.

Reporter Jack Hardin's daily column started out as "About Town" by "Hardin Colfax" sometime prior to 1960 -- nobody remembers exactly when -- and every reporter threw in names from time to time. The phony byline was a play on "hard and cold facts," but most people believed it was Hardin's pseudonym. So he became its most frequent contributor, eventually inheriting it completely. He stopped writing the column in 2006.
