Shepherd looks to continue dominance

HUNTINGTON -- Shepherd University, the defending West Virginia Conference women's regular-season champion, was No. 25 in the Women's Division II Bulletin Preseason Top 25 ranking.

Shepherd was 24-7 overall and 18-2 in the conference last season.

The Rams return their top two scorers, Katie Warehime (14.4) and Krissy Grosslein (11.6).

Gabby Gattuso (12.8 ppg) and Ashley Vavrek (10.7 ppg) return for Fairmont State, which downed West Virginia Wesleyan in the WVC tournament championship game.

West Virginia Wesleyan senior Sarah Van Horn was last season's confererence player of the year, leading the league in scoring (20.2), field goal percentage (54.8) and steals (114). She was second in rebounding (10.3).

Conference freshman of the year Tori Hansen from West Liberty averaged 11.1 points and 4.7 rebounds.
