More College Preview
HUNTINGTON -- Ohio State is building on last season's 29-8 finish, a Big Ten Conference men's basketball regular season title and NCAA Sweet 16 appearance.
HUNTINGTON -- University of Kentucky forward Victoria Dunlap was the overwhelming preseason choice of the media for Southeastern Conference Player of the Year.
LOS ANGELES -- His overstuffed recliner is tucked in a corner, next to a table with a telephone and an address book open to names written in pencil. The television plays a loop of a Western and a baseball game. All that's missing from the cozy scene is John Wooden himself.
MORGANTOWN -- It's that time of year again in Morgantown. The weather is turning colder, the leaves are changing colors, and the sounds of sneakers sliding up and down the basketball court in the Coliseum can be heard again.
HUNTINGTON -- UTEP guard Randy Culpepper, the 2010 Conference USA Player of the Year, was tabbed for the same preseason award by the league's head coaches.
ATHENS, Ohio -- Ohio head coach Frank Solich's team was selected second in the Mid-American Conference East Division. Temple was the first-place pick.
ATLANTA -- Excuse the Southeastern Conference if it views the national championship race as a rather private affair -- neighbor against neighbor, battling it out through the fall until there are only two teams left standing, setting up a final showdown in Atlanta on the first Saturday in December.
PRINCETON, W.Va. -- Defending champion West Liberty will turn to one of NCAA Division II's most potent offensive attacks in its quest for the school's first back-to-back West Virginia Intercollegiate Athletic Conference football crowns since 1970 and 1971.
No team this season can play the we-have-something-to-prove card as well as Southern California. Coming off a sub-par year, with a new coach and no postseason possibilities, Lane Kiffin's Trojans do have some very real obstacles to overcome.
W.Va. looks to regain Big East bragging rights
West Virginia coach Bill Stewart is plotting along the best way he knows how with NCAA rules violations hanging over his program.
Another title would put Ohio State in elite company
COLUMBUS, Ohio -- There's a spot in the history books awaiting the 2010 Ohio State Buckeyes.
Take heart, Southeastern Conference: Tim Tebow and Mount Cody are gone.
It's the end of the Big Ten as we know it.
MOREHEAD, Ky. -- There are plenty of clichés about being close. It doesn't cut it. It only counts in horseshoes and hand grenades. So close, but so far.
The Big East has three new coaches facing three drastically different challenges.
Houston, UCF favored in C-USA
HUNTINGTON -- Marshall University will end up in the middle of the pack in Conference USA -- at least that's what the experts are saying.
Just ask any college football coach and he'll tell you, all games are big games. OK, we'll concede that point. But some games are more intriguing than others. Here are the must-see games.
Phillips, Kentucky hoping to keep it going
LEXINGTON, Ky. -- Sleep doesn't come easy to Joker Phillips. Never has.
Expansion changed the landscape of college football this summer.
GRAYSON, Ky. -- Kentucky Christian University was picked for a ninth-place finish in the East Division of the NAIA Mid-South Conference.
