HUNTINGTON -- Marshall University's Career Services Center conducted another job fair last week.
The annual Spring Job Fair went well although student attendance was down from last semester's crowd.
"We had over 85 different employers attending," said Denise Hogsett, director of career services. "I would say that we estimate around 450 students took part in the event."
Last fall's event, The Career Extravaganza, was attended by 585 students. To promote the event a variety of signs and banners were placed across campus.
The participating employers set up booths, accepted resumes and interviewed potential job candidates.
Among the national companies that took part in the event were GEICO, Target, Amazon.com and Kroger. A number of state and local businesses were also on hand. Some of those were area media outlets and hospitals. A number of schools also offering positions to graduate students including Methodist Theological School and Morehead State University.
The armed forces were represented with recruiters from U.S. Army, the U.S. Marine Corps and the Marshall University ROTC.
Student attendance of the event was brisk early on, but began to dwindle throughout the day. A few of the companies had to leave early as well.
"Some of the employers attending the event go to career fairs all over the east," Hogsett said. "They had other events to prepare for, though I think their early departure didn't affect the fair as a whole."
The career expo, held once every semester, is a major undertaking for Marshall Career Services. Planning for the Fall Career Expo is already in it's early stages. The event's spin-off "The Educator Expo" will once again take place in the spring of next year. A similar, smaller show focusing on part-time and internship jobs is also being discussed for the fall semester.
