GRADUATION
CMHS seniors say farewell
HUNTINGTON -- Cabell Midland High School graduates gave tearful good-byes to friends Saturday after they received their diplomas at their graduation ceremony Saturday in Huntington.
Friends and family members celebrated the achievements of the recent high school grads at the ceremony hosted at the Big Sandy Superstore Arena. Emotions swelled within the graduates who have a to face a lot of changes in the next few months.
While many were excited about their future college careers, others were concerned with their uncertain future. Though many were looking forward to meeting new people, most were sad that they'd inevitably lose contact with high school pals.
"I'm definitely not going to miss the school part," joked graduate Ashley Gifford. "I'm going to miss my group of friends being together because now we're all going off to different places."
But before her friends leave for their respective colleges, Gifford said they have a few beach trips planned for the summer. Gifford said she's excited to visit Myrtle Beach, S.C. with her close-knit group of friends.
Graduate Trae Caldwell said luckily some of his high school friends will join him at West Virginia University in the fall. Caldwell, who will be studying mechanical engineering, said he is ready to start school and get on with being independent.
"I'm looking forward to the freedom," Caldwell said. "Growing up in a small town, it's going to be nice to move to a big city."
Katelyn Holley will be attending Marshall University in the fall. Though she has not decided what major she wants to pursue, Holley said she's ready to move out and become a grown up.
"I can't wait to meet new people, find out who I really am and become a real, independent adult," Holley said.
Graduate Christopher Webb wasn't very sentimental about his high school experience. Webb said he was more focused on starting classes at Marshall in the fall.
"I'm not really going to miss a lot," Webb said. "I'm just looking forward to meeting new people and having new experiences."
