The Herald-Dispatch asked parents, relatives, teachers and friends to submit the names of graduating Tri-State students who have demonstrated excellence. A team of editors had to narrow the choices from the dozens of nominations.

From community service to sports, drama and scholarships, these students represent a cross-section of the excellence of the class of 2009.

The students who appear here have demonstrated their ability to juggle dozens of activities while keeping their grades up; developed talents in several spheres; given back to our community and other communities; and overcome challenges to beat the odds.

For those reasons and more, these 32 young men and women have been named the 2009 Star Students.

These faces are a representation of the hundreds of students graduating from local schools and are moving on to bright futures. The Herald-Dispatch congratulates them all.
