Dingess era begins at Spring Valley

August 22, 2008 @ 12:05 AM

SPRING VALLEY -- Spring Valley's football team is brimming with excitement and the secret behind all that that positive energy is new head coach Brad Dingess.

Last season Spring Valley went 4-6 under Don Money. This season Dingess plans to introduce new formations on offense and defense that will not only bring excitement, but also produce wins.

Dingess was an assistant coach of the Timberwolves for eight seasons.

Spring Valley ran a double tight-end, Wing-T offense last season. Dingess is introducing a multiple spread style of attack.

"The excitement level is up and I hope our community comes out to see a new exciting style of football that they're not used to seeing," Dingess said. "I'm just really ready to lead this team as head coach and I also have a great group of assistant coaches to back me up."

The varsity roster has 58 sophomores, juniors and seniors. The freshman class has 30 to 35 players.

Leading the team is 6-foot-2, 184-pound junior quarterback Evan Ferguson. Last season Ferguson rotated snaps with Kevin Lawrence (6-1, 204, Sr.) who was moved to running back to take advantage of his running ability.

Senior Terry Kipp will hold down the starting running back spot. Kipp has outstanding speed.

"Everyone is working their tails off out here and I think this will be a good year for us," Kipp said. "I have a really good offensive line and I think they're going to open some big holes to run through."

The fullback position is anchored by hard-nosed senior Seth Morris. Junior Zack Wellman will see steady time at fullback.

Wide receivers include senior Joey McComas and junior George Brody. Lawrence and Kipp will also catch passes out of the backfield.

Brody is also the kicker.

Players contending for spots along the offensive line include Evan Thacker, John Fry, Seth Tacket, Seth Moore, and John Elliot.

The defensive line is composed of Tyler Bledsoe, Eddie Rodriguez, Scott Stewart and Kyle Lane.

Shutting down opposing passing attacks are cornerbacks Devin Hall, Chris Wellman, Casey Amis, Lawrence and Eric Slaton. Safeties are McComas, Kipp and Robbie May.

Spring Valley has a strong group of linebackers with a great amount of depth. Leading that pack are Morris and Wellman. They are joined by Zach Harrison, John Dingess, and Chase Lindsey.

"I think we have a playoff caliber team, but it just comes down to how we mesh together as a group," Dingess said.
