MU BACK TO SCHOOL GUIDE
Campus, city offer numerous parking options for students
Now that you've arrived on campus and classes start in just a few days, you most likely already have a dorm or apartment to park yourself in for the night.
But where to park your car?
There are lots of parking options on and around campus -- but they fill up fast, so don't dawdle.
Several parking garages around the city offer monthly parking. Marshall students have the option of purchasing a parking pass. Here's a list of local parking garages and lots to serve your needs:
- H&H Parking Inc., located at 910 4th Ave., offers two lots near Marshall.
- At 16th Street and 3rd Avenue there is a lot that costs $35 a month.
- On 3rd Avenue, near Buddy's BBQ, there is a lot offering daily and monthly parking, for $1 an hour. Pay at the meter. For more information, call 304-522-1211.
- R Industries Inc., located at 916 5th Ave., offers a monthly rate of $50. Students can pay $150 per semester for a spot. For more information, call 304-523-7451.
MU PARKING INFORMATION
Parking tickets on campus aren't cheap -- expired meter violations are $2; handicapped violations are $100 and all other violations are $10. Plus, unpaid parking tickets can put a hold on your ability to register for classes. So even if you are a commuter, a parking permit is probably worth the investment.
There are several student lots around campus, as well as a student parking garage on 3rd Avenue.
Types of permits offered for lots:
Evening permit: good for use after 4 p.m., in student lots. Cost is $85 a year.
Surface permit: good for use on any student lot on campus. Cost is $145 a year.
Garage permit: good for use in the parking garage. Cost is $245 a year.
Permits also are available in half-year increments or day-long passes.
You can get more information about student parking online at www.marshall.edu/parking. You can obtain parking permits from the Bursar's office on campus. Call 304-696-6620.
