PROFESSIONAL INVOLVEMENT: member, the American Public Transportation Association, and a former member of the board of the Community Transportation Association of America, a smaller transit trade association. She served as a founding member of the board of trustees of the prestigious Norma Y. Mineta Transportation Institute at San Jose State University from 1992 to 2007 and is a former officer of the Transportation Development Corporation, a national transit research institution. Shaffer is a past president of the West Virginia Public Transit Association and a former member of the West Virginia Governor's Public Transit Advisory Council. In her capacity as CEO of TTA, she has served as a member of the KYOVA Interstate Planning Commission since 1980.
COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT: multi-term member of the Huntington Urban Renewal Authority, two terms as president of the Huntington Municipal Development Authority; former president of Huntington Main Street; past president of the Huntington Rotary Club; served on the Executive Committee of the Huntington Regional Chamber of Commerce; served on the Cabell County Development Authority; served as a member of the Board of the Huntington Area Development Council; served as an executive board member of the Tri-State Area Council, Boy Scouts of America; served on the board of the Huntington Visitors and Convention Bureau; board of the Salvation Army; was a member of the Community Advisory Panel of the BASF Corporation.
