Sarah Care provides support

January 24, 2008 @ 09:38 AM

Today approximately 10% of the citizens in West Virginia are providing daily care for a loved one. They provide emotional, physical, and moral support to their loved ones. A typical caregiver often neglects their own health and well being while providing care for their loved one. This leads to depression, deteriorating health, resentment, and of course, they are exhausted. In order to take care of their loved ones as well as themselves, caregivers MUST receive some form of respite from their daily care giving duties.

The good news? There are resources in our area that provide support, education, and much needed respite for their loved one as well as themselves.
Several agencies in the region offer homemaker, skilled nursing, as well as personal care services. Also, there are a limited amount of adult day care centers that offer up to 11 hours of respite for caregivers in a safe and secure environment for their loved ones.

The value of each of these services is immeasurable in terms of the increase in the quality of life for both the caregiver as well as the recipient. The caregiver receives the rest they most desperately need and their loved one receives the quality care they deserve.
