Wellman leads Spring Valley boys to victory

HAMLIN -- Elijah Wellman was 3-4 at the plate, drove in three runs and scored three times as Spring Valley defeated Lincoln County 10-7 Thursday night on the road.

The Timberwolves (6-4) also got multiple hits from Briar Brewer and Kaleb Frye.

Spring Valley (6-4) next takes on Nitro at home Thursday at 7 p.m.

HUNTINGTON ST. JOE 15, TOLSIA 5: The Irish garnered 14 hits while the Rebels committed eight errors as Huntington St. Joe defeated Tolsia by mercy rule Wednesday evening.

St. Joe (6-1) was led by Torrin Walters at the plate, who went 3-4. Catcher Anthony Rabel went 2-4.

Huntington St. Joe plays next in the Catholic Schools Tournament in Weirton Friday.

FAIRLAND 8, CHESAPEAKE 3: The Fairland softball team put up 17 hits to defeat rival Chesapeake on the road 8-3 Wednesday evening.

The Dragons got all eight in the first two innings, while the Panthers (2-6) got all three of their runs in the bottom of the fifth.

Chandler Fulks pitched a complete game for the Dragons (3-5), while going 2-4 at the plate with 3 RBI. Caitlin Stone hit three doubles for the Dragons, and Haley Woodall went 4-4 in the game.
