Hurricane vs. St. Albans softball final rescheduled
HURRICANE -- The Class AAA, Region IV softball final between Hurricane and St. Albans to see which team advances to state tournament was washed out Thursday by rain.
The contest was rescheduled for 6 p.m. Friday at Hurricane.
Hurricane head coach Josh Caldwell said the field is covered in a tarp, and school officials had considered trying to play the game up until about two hours from the 6 p.m. start time Thursday.
"We were going to play, but it was still pouring here," Caldwell said. "It became a case of if we're going to play, when are we going to get this game on, 7:30 or later?
"We didn't want to take a chance and peel the tarp up only to have more rain knock us out of Thursday and Friday."
The game is Hurricane's first regional final in Region IV. The Redskins have compiled a 29-6 record in 2013.
The St. Albans Red Dragons have only dropped four games on the season, though two of those were to Hurricane, 9-0 and 13-0.
