Three members of Hurricane's team named to all-state softball
HUNTINGTON -- Three members of Hurricane's state championship squad were named to the Class AAA softball all-state first team by the West Virginia Sports Writers Association.
Hurricane junior outfielder Addie Fullen, sophomore utility selection Courtney Rogers and senior catcher Linzie Reynolds were on the first unit with Cabell Midland senior infielders Morgan Zerkle and Morgan Kelley and Lincoln County senior outfielder Morgan Hutchison.
Rogers was the ultimate two-way player. She was 21-3 with a 2.23 ERA and 100 strikeouts as a pitcher while compiling a .492 batting average with 11 home runs and 60 runs batted in.
Fullen hit .466 with 54 hits and 44 RBIs. Fullen had a .425 average, two homers and 42 RBIs.
Hurricane won the Class AAA title in its first state tournament appearance.
Zerkle had a .647 batting average, four homers, 23 RBIs and 59 runs while Kelley hit .456 with eight homers and 54 RBIs for the Cabell Midland Knights.
Hurricane also placed sophomore utility player Emily Davis and sophomore infielder Madi Casto on the all-state second team.
Cabell Midland senior outfielder Jenny Brumfield was another second team pick along with Point Pleasant sophomore pitcher Madison Barker. Lincoln County had two players on the second team -- freshman infielder Sarah Barrett and sophomore utility pick Brooke West.
John Marshall senior catcher Kristen Lewicki was chosen as captain of the all-state second team.
All-state special honorable mention recognition players included Nicole Pierson from Hurricane, Jordan Colliflower from Cabell Midland and Cassie Adkins from Spring Valley.
Other players receiving special honorable mention included Faith Huffman and Amy Parsons from Lincoln County, Kaci Riffle of Point Pleasant and Antonia Hill from Logan.
Huntington High's Rachel Bias was on the honorable mention list with Erin Kaplan of Cabell Midland, Brooke Jackson of Spring Valley, Maddie Herb from Hurricane and Cassi Sargent from Hurricane.
Kenna Markham from Winfield was also an honorable mention selection along with Megan Davis of Point Pleasant and Hana Sedlock and Aaron Ward from Logan.
