Wayne returns to top
HUNTINGTON — Wayne joins Huntington High this week atop the West Virginia high school football computer ratings.
Wayne assumed the top spot in Class AA while Huntington High held its position at No. 1 in Class AAA.
Class AA has No. 1 Wayne (5-0) and No.2 Frankfort (5-0) as its only undefeated teams.
Wayne has a Friday home game against No. 18 Scott (3-3), which is just outside the top 16 cutoff to make the playoffs after the regular season.
Huntington High (6-0) is idle this week. The Highlanders are joined by No. 2 George Washington (5-0), No. 3 Wheeling Park (5-0), No. 4 Point Pleasant (5-0) and No. 5 Oak Hill (5-0) with perfect records in the division.
One of Friday’s big matchups in the state is Oak Hill at Point Pleasant.
Class AAA No. 7 Cabell Midland (5-1) has a Friday visit to No. 8 Capital (4-1) while No. 15 Spring Valley (4-2) plays a home game against No. 31 Riverside (1-5).
Logan (4-1) is No. 13 in Class AAA, Hurricane (3-2) is No. 18, Winfield (2-3) is No. 23 and Lincoln County remains winless at 0-5.
Class AA Chapmanville (4-2) and No. 16 Mingo Central (3-2) are still in the playoff hunt.
Tolsia (2-3) is looking to move up from No. 23 and Poca (1-5) is No. 36.
St. Marys (5-0) is No. 1 in Class A with Man (4-1) at No. 6, Wahama (5-1) at No. 11, Tug Valley (2-4) at No. 20, Hannan (1-4) at No. 34 and Buffalo (0-6) at No. 36.
Ohio Division V will send eight teams from each region to the playoffs. No. 3 Wheelersburg (6-0), No. 6 Fairland (3-3), No. 9 Ironton (2-4), No. 10 South Point (4-2) and No. 11 Portsmouth (2-4) are hoping to make it. No. 23 Chesapeake (1-5) needs to make a run.
Lucasville Valley (6-0) is No. 1 in Division VI, Region 21. No. 17 Coal Grove (2-4) appears to be coming on.
Symmes Valley (4-2) is a team positioned for the playoffs in Division VII, Region 25.
