St. Joe girls fall to Charleston Catholic

BUFFALO, W.Va. -- Charleston Catholic defeated Huntington St. Joe, 16-8, in the Class A, Region IV, Section 4 softball tournament Wednesday.

St. Joe rallied from 9-0 down, getting a run in the top of the fourth inning and then exploding for seven in the top of the fifth, before Charleston Catholic got five in the bottom of the sixth to enact the mercy rule.

Jennifer Sang had a double and four RBIs for Huntington St. Joe.

The Irish will play the loser of a Charleston Catholic vs. Buffalo game in the double-elimination format Thursday at 5:30 p.m.

IRONTON 3, FAIRLAND 1: Ironton cooled off a red hot Fairland team and spoiled Senior Night for the Dragons with a tight win Wednesday evening.

Andi Kratzenburg went 2-for-4 at the plate with a double and two RBIs for the Fighting Tigers.

Chandler Fulks was 3-for-4 for Fairland (16-7).

BASEBALL

PROCTORVILLE, Ohio -- Ironton put up two runs in the eighth inning to beat Fairland, 4-2, on baseball Senior Night for the Dragons.

Kyle Raines pitched all eight innings for Fairland and Kyle Sowards had a double.

Fairland plays South Point and Rock Hill next week. If the Dragons win out, they will clinch the Ohio Valley Conference title.
