HUNTINGTON -- As the softball sectionals wind down across the region, baseball is just heating up with teams beginning sectional play today.

Class AAA, Region IV, Section 3 baseball sectional action gets underway at Cabell Midland today at 6 p.m. when Hurricane meets Lincoln County. The winner will take on Cabell Midland at Cabell Midland on Tuesday at 6 p.m.

This sectional shifts to Hurricane on Wednesday when the loser of tonight's game meets the loser of Tuesday's game in a 6 p.m. elimination matchup. The winner of that game will meet the winner of Tuesday's game on Thursday at 6 p.m. at Hurricane, and if necessary, the teams will face off again at Hurricane on Friday at 6 p.m.

Action in Class AAA, Region IV, Section 4 starts on Tuesday evening at Spring Valley High School when Huntington High and Spring Valley meet at 6 p.m. The teams will meet again at Spring Valley on Wednesday at 6 p.m. and if necessary, also at Spring Valley on Thursday at 6 p.m.

The matchup in Class AA, Region IV, Section 4 between Wayne and Tolsia starts at Wayne High School on Tuesday at 6 p.m. The scene shifts to Tolsia on Wednesday for a 5 p.m. matchup. If needed, the two teams will battle Thursday at 6 p.m. at Wayne.

And, let's not overlook the girls.

Huntington High and Cabell Midland face off in the Class AAA, Region IV softball semifinals Thursday at 5 p.m. on the Knights' field.

St. Joe plays Buffalo in a Class A, Region IV semifinal game at 6 p.m. Thursday in Buffalo.

Wayne and Tolsia will finish their Class AA, Region IV, Section 4 tournament today at Wayne with the winner advancing to the regionals.
