MSAC honors local players

HUNTINGTON -- All-Mountain State Athletic Conference first team boys soccer players included Huntington High senior midfielder Max Simpson, Cabell Midland senior midfielder Carter Sutton and Spring Valley senior midfielder Jacob Haddox.

All-MSAC second team selections included Huntington High senior forward Austin Preece and senior defender Riley Imlay; Cabell Midland senior defender Noah Wilds; and Spring Valley senior defender Nick Atkins. Hurricane had junior forward Loran Meadows and senior midfielder Guillermo Ugarte on the second team with Winfield senior defender Geoffrey Samples.

Winfield had Jayne Lawman chosen as the MSAC girls player of the year and Marshall Hoff from the Generals named as the girls coach of the year.

Spring Valley's girls had three first team picks -- freshman forward Canaan Booton, senior defender Amy Stewart and senior goalkeeper Hannah Smith.

Junior forward Abby Watson, junior midfielder Audrey Barber and junior defender Lauren London from Hurricane made the all-conference first team. Winfield had freshman forward Mary Lawman and senior midfielder Micharae Thompson on the first team.

Girls second team choices included Huntington High sophomore forward Tory Shackelford; sophomore midfielder Elizabeth Conaty; and senior defender Alli Hildebrand. Hurricane junior midfielder Allison Clay also made the second team. Winfield's second team players were sophomore midfielders Jordan Pauley and M.E. Zulauf; sophomore defender Kaylee Cross; and senior goalkeeper Braiden Maddox.

All-MSAC boys cross country runners from Cabell Midland were Nick Salmons, Brandon Atkinson, Hunter Adkins, Austin Jarrell and Jonathan Hathaway. Hurrricane had Jake Henley and Jacob Harmon. Winfield had R.J. Weiford.

For girls cross country the team included Tori Dent, Anna Gordon and Joie Johnston from Hurricane; and Brittany McMillion, Rachael Englund, Barkley Castro and Alyssa Rittinger from Winfield.
