Lincoln County's Huffman pitches perfect game

HAMLIN -- Faith Huffman tossed a perfect game in Lincoln County's 10-0, 3-inning win over George Washington in the first game of a doubleheader Saturday. The Panthers struck for six runs in the bottom of the sixth to knock off Ashland, 9-5, in the nightcap.

Sarah Barrett, Brooke West and Huffman each drove in two runs in the opener.

In the nightcap, Megan Tully smacked a homer and knocked in three runs to lead the Panthers (21-6).

Lincoln County's next game is Monday at Hurricane. Game time is 5:30 p.m.

FAIRLAND SWEEPS: The Dragons scored nine runs in the first inning on the way to 16-10 victory over Athens in game one of a tournament in Gallipolis. The Dragons got the sweep with an 8-3 victory over Marietta.

Haley Woodall went 4-for-4 and knocked in three runs in the opener for Fairland. Winning pitcher Allison Shepherd knocked in three. Woodall had three hits in three at-bats in the nightcap as did Ellen Hinshaw. Chandler Fulks got the win.

Fairland's next game is Monday at River Valley.

Wayne (18-4) won the opener, 6-1, and the nightcap, 10-4.

Jessie Rowe was the winning pitcher in both games. She struck out 13.

Allie Maynard, Tara Watts and Tasha Maynard each had two RBIs in the first game. Endicott and Allie Maynard hit back-to-back homers in the fifth inning of game two.

Wahama's Sierra Carmichael had two hits in game one and drove in a run in game two. Kelsey Billups and Bailey Hicks for the White Falcons both had two hits in the second game. Billups and Shalynn Greer had RBIs.

KNIGHTS TAKE TWO: The Knights (21-4) made quick work of George Washington, winning 12-2 in three innings. Erin Kaplan's three-run homer and 3-hit pitching by Kyla Shull helped Cabell Midland beat Ashland, 7-0, in game two. Both games were at Lincoln County HIgh School.

Cabell Midland's next game is Tuesday in the Mountain State Athletic Conference Tournament. Pairings are scheduled to be made Sunday.

CABELL MIDLAND SWEEPS TWO GAMES: The Knights scored twice in the top of the first and that margin held up for a 2-0 win over Princeton in their first game played at Epling Stadium in Beckley.

Cabell Midland got the sweep when Seth Kinker belted a game-winning RBI double in the bottom of the seventh inning to lift the Knights past Riverside, 4-3. Kinker also got the win on the mound.

Cabell Midland's next game is Monday at home against Boyd County. Game time is 7 p.m.
