Wayne wins 30th consecutive game
FALLING ROCK, W.Va. — Wayne’s 30th consecutive football victory followed the same script as many of the first 29.
A big halftime lead and lots of playing time for the reserves.
The Pioneers bolted to a 41-6 halftime lead and cruised Friday night at Herbert Hoover, 53-20.
“We have a lot of offense,” Wayne coach Tom Harmon said. “Sometimes we go weeks at a time where we don’t dig too deep into the repertoire. Nice to have options so your not dead in the water.”
Grant Ferguson accounted for 203 yards and four touchdowns, all before halftime. Ferguson threw for 147 yards and two scores, while running for two more.
Harmon said Ferguson is a special player with his playmaking ability and command of the multiple things he’s asked to do.
Mason Hodge ran for two scores and caught a touchdown pass for the Pioneers (7-0).
Eleven different players carried the ball for Class AA No. 1 Wayne.
Shaun Dotson had a 57-yard scoring run for Herbert Hoover (2-5).
Wayne plays next week at Poca.
