Nitro's McClanahan leads South to hoops win
SOUTH CHARLESTON -- Brett McClanahan from Nitro scored 23 points and made six three-point shots Friday, leading the South to a 117-99 victory in the North-South All-Star basketball classic at the South Charleston Civic Center.
The South overcame a 53-51 halftime deficit.
Bryant Irwin from Bridgeport scored 27 for the North.
McClanahan, a 6-foot-4 guard was selected as the MVP of his team while 6-7 forward Bryant Irwin from Bridgeport was chosen for the North squad.
Damien Tunstalle, a 6-4 player from Woodrow Wilson, won the pregame slam dunk competition. Irwin was the runner-up and 6-3 Ansel Ponder of Bluefield took third place.
Wheeling Central guard Shane Phillips was the three-point shooting champion, going 8-for-10. Runners-up were Jesse Ward of Wirt County and Corey Willard of Wyoming East with both making 7 of 10.
Phillips squared off against Tyrone Goard from Capital in the free throw shooting contest. Phillips made 10 of 10 in the finals to win. Goard was 9-for-10 in the finals.
