Fairland girls, Coal Grove boys win titles
BIDWELL, Ohio -- Coal Grove boys and Fairland girls won team championship at the Ohio Valley Conference track and field meet.
Garrett Schultz from Coal Grove was a double winner in the boys 110 hurdles (15.9 seconds) and 300 hurdles (43.1).
Coal Grove had wins by Alex Bare in the long jump (19-9), Andrew Henry in the shot put (44-3.50), Austen Pleasants in the discus (136-3) and Brandon Adkins in the high jump (6-5),
The Hornets also won the 4x100 (Austin Willis, Greg Carter, Jesse Rigsby, Michael Knuckles) with a time of 46.3 and the 4x200 (Sean Paulus, Jeff Smith, Jacob Pierce, Trevor Barrett) with a time of 1:36.0.
Raine Wireman from boys runner-up Fairland won the 800 (2:06.0) and 1600 (4:50.0).
Logan Rowe from Fairland won the 3200 (10:33.6) and Josh Sifford was first in the pole vault (11-0).
The Dragons won the 4x800 (Rowe, Wireman, Sifford, Taylor Lewis) with a time of 8:39.7;
Javon Thompson figured in four winning events for the Chesapeake boys.
Thompson won the 100 (11.7 seconds), 200 (23.6) and 400 (52.5). He also ran with Tyler Sanders, Nick Duffield and Drew Oxley on the first-place 4x400 relay (3:37.6).
Fairland's girls had double victories by Sydney Pettit and Jordan Porter.
Pettit won the 800 (2:37.2) and 1600 (5:44.5) while Porter won the shot put (43-6) and discus (103-0). Shanan Ashton won the 3200 (12:45.1).
The Dragons had other girls wins in the 4x400 (Mariah Chaffin, Taylor Perry, Jessica Price, Pettit) with a time of 4:32.2 and the 4x800 (Megan Ashton, Paige Looney, Taylor Perry, Mariah Chaffin) with a time of 11:10.7.
Chesapeake girls sprinter Tia Spaulding had three wins for the Panthers. Spaulding won the 100 (13.1), 200 (27.4) and 300 hurdles (50.7).
