Midland cross country runners win Hurricane Invitational
HURRICANE -- Cabell Midland boys cross country runners rolled to victory at the Hurricane Invitational.
Cabell Midland had a team score of 37 followed by St. Albans with 72, Winfield with 81 and Hurricane with 135.
Caleb Ellis from St. Albans won the boys 5K with a time of 17:41.74.
Cabell Midland had four of its runners in the top 10 -- Trey Beckett, second, 18:00.40; Corey Miller, seventh, 18:29.05; Michael Niemann, eighth, 18:29.46; and Dustin Stewart, ninth, 18:30.54. Nolan Queen for the Knights placed 11th with a time of 18:34.25.
Huntington High's top runner was Luke Finley in 17th place with a time of 18:54.65, followed by Jon Blatt from Spring Valley in 18th place with a time of 19:91.34.
Hurricane won the girls race. Alex Dent for the Redskins was first in 20:17.31 and Josie Crouch placed second with a time of 20:27.68.
Cabell Midland's girls had Rachel Williams seventh (21:58.13) and Brittany Taft ninth (22:17.25).
Skye Taylor from Covenant School was 15th with a time of 22:56.91.
Alexander Georgel-Walz from Huntington High placed 21st (23:22.94) and Savannah Rutherford from Spring Valley was 44th (25:06.52).
