Spring Valley cruises past South Point
SPRING VALLEY -- Spring Valley High School's boys soccer team pressured South Point early and often in the first half Tuesday night and eventually wore the Pointers down in a convincing 4-0 win.
T.L. Bryant played a huge roll in the Timberwolves' relentless offense. Spring Valley (2-1) failed to convert on a few opportunities, before Bryant smashed the ball in the back of the net at the eight-minute mark.
That was Spring Valley's only score of the first half, but it set the tone for things to come later in the game. Bryant wasted little time in scoring the game's second goal on a penalty kick at the 44-minute mark.
Bryant did a little bit of everything for Spring Valley, even playing goalie the final 21 minutes and recording two saves. It was an electric performance for a player who seems to be peaking at the ideal time.
"We played great tonight and everything was spot on perfect," Bryant said. "This is my first two-goal game so I'm pretty excited right now."
South Point (3-2) proved to be a scrappy bunch, battling Spring Valley every step of the way in the first half. Jordan Fletcher and Bobby Burgess displayed sound ball handling ability for the Pointers.
"The first half we let the ball work instead of letting us work, but South Point really played us tough," Spring Valley coach Stos Hall said. "In the second half we wore them down and exploited our scoring opportunities."
After Bryant's goal that gave Spring Valley a 2-0 lead, Evan Bailey got in on the scoring action by converting on a header that was sent by Tyler Hall. Bailey was also instrumental in Spring Valley's victory, scoring the goal and dishing two assists.
Spring Valley outshot South Point 12-3. The Timberwolves controlled the ball and field positioning for the majority of the game.
Dakota McCoy put the exclamation mark on the win by booting in the game's final goal at the 51-minute mark on an assist by Bailey.
In the early game, Huntington St. Joe (2-0-1) and Midland Trail battled to a 2-2 tie in girls soccer action. Hannah Pilcher and Mo Lopez scored the Fighting Irish's two goals.
