Spring Valley girls fall in league finals
BELLE, W.Va. -- Class AAA top-ranked Spring Valley suffered its first defeats of the season and lost in the finals of the Mountain State Athletic Conference volleyball tournament Saturday at Riverside.
Huntington HIgh ended Spring Valley's perfect season in a pool play match, 25-13, 25-23. Parkersburg defeated the Timberwolves in the championship match, 19-25, 25-19, 25-18.
Spring Valley, now with a 52-2-1 season record, battled back to gain a measure of revenge by beating Huntington High later in pool play, 25-18, 25-19.
Class AAA, Region IV, Section 1 double-elimination tournament action at 6 p.m. Monday on the Cabell Midland courts for the host Knights, Huntington High, Spring Valley, Hurricane and Lincoln County.
