St. Joseph girls open with win

FAIRFAX, Va. -- Huntington St. Joe opened its girls basketball season Friday with a 77-57 victory over T.C. Williams of Alexandria, Va., in the Art Turner Memorial Classic.

Mychal Johnson's 27 points topped four double-figure scorers for the Irish (1-0).

Asia Petitte followed with 17 points and also had seven rebounds. Rachel Lee and Mychelle Johnson scored 14 and 13 respectively.

Griffin Dempsey had eight assists.

T.C. Williams (0-1), which was featured in the movie "Remember the Titans," was led by Tykeria Carter with 19 points.

St. Joe will play St. John's from Washington, D.C., at 1:45 p.m. Saturday.

ASHLAND 81, BOYD COUNTY 59: Nick Miller's 23 points led the Tomcats (2-0) at home. Tyler Stewart (16), Steven Friley (15) and Damantie Thornton (14) provided scoring support.

Boyd County (0-2) had double-figure points from Connor Gauze (15), Tristan Burgess (14) and Grayson Griffith (12).
