Ashland seeks invitational title for 14th time
ASHLAND — Logan Salow's 18 points led Ashland past Sheldon Clark, 71-58, in a Friday boys basketball game in the 58th Ashland Invitational Tournament.
Nick Miller followed with 15 points for the Tomcats (8-2). Zach Hart and Steven Friley both scored 10 while Dikembe Dixson had nine points and eight rebounds. Sheldon Clark, which opened the season with six consecutive victories, fell to 7-2.
Sheldon Clark's leading scorers were Chase Parsley and Chase Kirk with 24 and 21 respectively.
Newport Central Catholic (9-0) defeated Boyd County (6-6), 69-62. Michael Bueter tossed in 24 points for the Newport Thoroughbreds. Austin Hunt led the Lions with 21 points and Todd Stacy netted 11.
Russell (9-3) beat West Jessamine (8-3), 57-54. Kyle Skaggs (15), Jacob Porter (13), Googie Hayes (11) and Steven Estep (10) led the Russell scoring. Rashawn Jackson scored 12 for West Jessamine.
A Thursday afternoon game between Henderson County and South Laurel was canceled because the Henderson County Colonels were delayed by snow in western Kentucky.
South Laurel (4-6) was given a bye into the semifinals against Ashland at 8:30 p.m., Friday in James A. Anderson Gymnasium. Newport Central Catholic and Russell meet in the first semifinal game at 7 p.m.
Henderson County (9-2) fell into the consolation bracket.
