Adkins receives Griffith scholarship
HUNTINGTON -- Spring Valley High School graduate Hannah Adkins is this year's recipient of the Dick Griffith Endowed Scholarship from the Huntington Tennis Association.
The $1,000 scholarship has been awarded annually since 1999 to a student from Cabell County and Wayne County in West Virginia, Lawrence County in Ohio or Boyd County in Kentucky. The recipient is selected based on sportsmanship, moral character, citizenship and satisfactory academic standing.
Griffith is a Kenova resident known as "Mr. Tennis" for his many contributions to the sport.
Adkins will attend Alderson Broaddus College in Philippi, W.Va., and anticipates studying to become a physician's assistant.
The daughter of Billy and Kelly Adkins was on the Spring Valley tennis, soccer and softball teams. She was captain of the tennis team and co-captain of the soccer squad.
Adkins was named to the Senior Salute Program as one of 16 Spring Valley seniors who met requirements that included a 3.5 GPA.
She was listed on the National Honor Roll, a Math Field Day Alternate and a Booth Scholar.
