Buffalo girls lead Class A selections
CHARLESTON -- Ali Burdette and Chelsey Parkins from Buffalo High School's championship team were selected as co-captains of the Class A all-state softball team.
Burdette and Parkins were joined by Katie Higginbotham from the Bison and Bailey Hicks of Wahama on the all-state first team selected by members of the West Virginia Sports Writers Association.
All-state second team selections included Noell Dingess from Buffalo and Madison Keffer from Man.
Buffalo also had Olivia Dunn and Chase Christy on the special mention all-state list. Honorable mention picks included Buffalo players Paige Roush and Katie Allen.
Burdette, a junior, had a 13-3 pitching record, an 0.61 earned run average and 143 strikeouts. She hit .495 with three home runs and 26 runs batted in, 10 doubles, two triples and 19 stolen bases.
Parkins had a 14-4 record, 1.10 ERA and 128 strikeouts as a senior. She hit .485 with five homers, 35 RBIs, 12 doubles, five triples and 25 steals.
"Their stats throughout the year were almost identical to each other," Buffalo coach Darrell Moore said. "It's almost like having a pair of twins on the team and each one gives you the same production and leadership."
Higginbotham, a senior outfielder, had a .400 batting average with 17 RBIs, seven doubles and 17 steals.
Wahama's infield was anchored by Hicks, a senior with a .552 average, seven homers and 32 RBIS.
Dingess was a senior infielder selected from Buffalo, which won its fourth consecutive state title. Keffer, a senior, pitched for Man.
Sherman junior pitcher Kylie Wells was chosen as captain of the all-state second team.
