Locals on top of Ohio track events
COLUMBUS -- Jordan Porter of Chesapeake and Brandon Adkins from Coal Grove were event winners Friday in the Ohio high school track and field championships at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium.
Porter's throw of 137-feet, 8 inches was first in the Division II girls discus. The Panthers' senior beat runner-up Nicolette Kreatsoulas from Poland Seminary who threw 127-10.
Adkins was the Division III boys high jump winner. The Coal Grove junior cleared 6-feet, 8 inches while second place went to Ben Olewiler from Ashland Crestview at 6-7.
Gallipolis senior Logan Allison won the Division II boys long jump by going 22-feet, 5.50 inches. Second-place Cameron Burrows from Perkins leaped 22-2.50.
The championships conclude Saturday with more events.
In Friday's qualifying heats the Reedsville Eastern girls advanced in the 4x800 and 4x400 relays with times of 9:33.22 and 4:05.51 respectively. Runners were seniors Keri Lawrence and Maddie Rigsby, junior Taylor Palmer and freshman Laura Pullins.
Gallipolis junior Jacob Click posted the third-fastest qualifying time of 38.73 seconds in the 300-meter hurdles.
