Lawman, Midkiff earn all-state soccer honors

December 09, 2012 @ 12:00 AM

HUNTINGTON -- Winfield High School's girls soccer state champions placed Jayne Lawman and Erin Midkiff on the Class AAA all-state first team.

Lawman made first team forward as a sophomore. She scored 29 goals, including the game-winner to beat Huntington High in the regional final, and the game-winner in the state title match against George Washington.

"In a pinch, she's going to be the one to step up," said Winfield coach Marshall Hoff. "That kind of pressure doesn't get to her."

Midkiff also made the first team as a senior defender for the Generals while senior forward Emily Cole, who scored 33 goals and had 12 assists, was named captain of the all-state second team.

Huntington High senior Braddick Price was named to the first team as a defender.

Senior midfielders Summer Wheatley and Kelsie Burns from Huntington High made the all-state second team.

Hurricane senior forward Brittany Minor was another second team selection.
