Fletcher helps Ironton topple Trojans, 53-51

PORTSMOUTH, Ohio -- Trey Fletcher scored 26 points to lead Ironton to a 53-51 win over Portsmouth on Saturday night.

The Fighting Tigers (2-0) , who shot poorly in the first half, made their push in the third period when they went on a 16-2 run to take the lead for good.

The Trojans (2-2) were coming off a 75-43 win at Jackson on Friday night.

Fletcher connected in the third period to put Ironton ahead, 31-30, and the visitors never trailed again.

Zac Carter added 17 points for the Fighting Tigers.

Portsmouth's Jayllen Carter scored 15 of his game-high 27 points in the fourth period. On Friday, he fired in a school-record 44 points against Jackson.

Ironton returns to action Tuesday at home against Waverly.

COAL GROVE 75, SYMMES VALLEY 61: Sean Paulus connected on a jumper with 3:05 left and then a three-pointer with 2:45 to go to help the Hornets hold off the Vikings.

Alex Bare also scored 18 points and Conor Markins 15 for Coal Grove.

Austin Baldwin paced Symmes Valley with a game-high 19 points. Tyler Rowe contributed 15 and D.J. Miller 13.

ATHENS 60, CHESAPEAKE 47: Joe Burrow hit for 21 points and Idi Watson 20 to power the Bulldogs past the Panthers in the Newt Oliver Classic at the University of Rio Grande's Newt Oliver Arena.

Caleb Heffner led the Panthers with 14 points. Javon Thompson added 13 and Nick Duffield 11.

Chesapeake's next game is Tuesday at home against Coal Grove.
