HHS, Spring Valley girls win to advance

HUNTINGTON — Elizabeth Conaty scored twice to lead Huntington High to a 3-2 win over Cabell Midland in a West Virginia Class AAA, Region IV, Section 2 girls soccer tournament game Tuesday.

Kori Blevins scored at 19:00 to give the Cabell Midland Knights a 1-0 lead at halftime.
Tanner McCoy pulled the Highlanders even at 67:00 of the second half. Conaty broke a 1-1 tie with her first goal at 71:00 and she made it 3-1 with a score at 77:00. Allie Hildebrand had the assist on Conaty’s second goal.

Angel Harrison for the No. 3 seed Knights closed the gap on a penalty kick at 78:00.

The Highlanders, the No. 2 seed, will take on No. 1 seed Spring Valley at 6 p.m. Thursday at Huntington High for the sectional championship.

Spring Valley defeated No. 4 Lincoln County in the second game Tuesday.

The Spring Valley Timberwolves are No. 14 in the state and No. 9 in Class AAA in the latest West Virginia High School Coaches Association rankings.
