Midland girls beat Ironton, go to 5-1

ONA -- Cabell Midland moved to 5-1 on the season Wednesday, defeating Ironton 45-35 at home.

The Knights were led by Sierra Jordan who had 11 points and 11 rebounds. Midland also got seven points and 15 rebounds from Emily Pitkin.

Midland next plays Friday at Princeton.

IRONTON 9 4 13 8 -- 35: Ariel Schweichrd 11, Lexie Washington 10, Barrier 5, Martin 4, Murphy 4.

CABELL MIDLAND 13 10 13 7 -- 45: Sierra Jordan 11, Bias 9, Pitkin 7, Ellis 6, Jarrell 5, Hardin 5, Haggerty 2.

SPRING VALLEY 71, WOODROW WILSON 47: Spring Valley senior Mackenzie Morris had a career-high 20 points as the Spring Valley Timberwolves moved to 4-2 on the season after winning at Woodrow Wilson Wednesday.

Morris' sophomore sister, Madison Morris, had 13 points, and Brooke Heck and Sarah Kelly had 12 apiece in the win.

The Timberwolves next face Ironton in the Ironton Classic Friday at 3:45 p.m.

BOYD COUNTY 67, LINCOLN COUNTY 33: The Boyd County girls rode seven threes from Hunter Reeves in cruising past Lincoln County in the first round of the Lady Peake Holiday Tournament at Chesapeake Wednesday night.

Reeves finished with 23 points on the night, while Taylor Wheeler added 19 and Morgan Kenser contributed 12.

CHESAPEAKE 65, WAYNE 27: The Chesapeake girls had no problem holding home court at the Lady Peake Holiday Tournament, easily beating Wayne Wednesday night.

The Panthers (6-1) were led by Jordan Porter with 23 points, and Sydnee Hall with 15. Chesapeake forced 30 turnovers on the night.

Chesapeake will play Boyd County in the tournament final Friday night at 7:30 p.m. Wayne and Lincoln County will play in the consolation game at 6 p.m.
