Express falls to Indiana team
KETTERING, Ohio -- The 11th annual Flyin' To The Hoop boys basketball event didn't live up to its name Friday night for Huntington Prep.
La Lumiere (Ind.) started strong in the second half and was able to hold off Huntington Prep's rally in the fourth quarter to earn a 46-35 win over the Express in a matchup of top 10 teams nationally at Trent Arena.
Huntington Prep player Andrew Wiggins has been fighting flu-like symptoms for the last two weeks, and they showed up again. Wiggins finished with 11 points as the only player in double-figures for the Express.
It was a tough shooting night for the guards as Xavier Rathan-Mayes and Travon Landry combined to go just 2-of-20 for Huntington Prep, who fell a 19-2 record.
La Lumiere started the second half on a 12-3 run to take its biggest lead, 34-22.
Huntington Prep scored the next seven points to pull within five early in the fourth quarter, but it was as close as the Express could get.
The Express shot just 17 percent in the second half (4-of-23).
Huntington Prep has to forget about the loss quickly as the team flies to Springfield, Mass., for Sunday's 5 p.m. matchup with New Hampton Prep (N.H.) that is on ESPN.
