Fairview sending four to play college football

HUNTINGTON -- Kentucky Class A football runner-up Fairview had four of its players commit to colleges Wednesday.

Halfback Devon Turner signed with Georgetown (Ky.) College. Receiver Mason Rutherford committed to Morehead State University. Halfbacks Elijah King and Chris Brewer are headed to Eastern Kentucky University.

The foursome lead the Eagles in 14 consecutive victories before a loss to Mayfield.

Turner rushed for 1,575 yards and scored 24 touchdowns.

Rutherford had 22 receptions for 567 yards and six scores in his only season at Fairview as a transfer from Huntington High.

King also transferred to Fairview from Huntington High. He ran for 1,379 yards and 21 touchdowns.

Brewer rushed for 1,667 yards and scored 17 touchdowns last season. He ran for more than 4,000 yards as a high school player.

King is going to EKU as an invited walk-on while Brewer is going to enroll and hope for an opportunity to play.

A NEW BATTLER: Winfield running back and linebacker Seth Lewis signed to play NCAA Division II football at Alderson-Broaddus College in Philippi, W.Va.

CABELL MIDLAND RUNNERS: Knights track and cross country coach Chris Parsons said Avery Campbell is signing to run for Xavier University at 2:15 p.m., Friday, in the school auditorium. Jacob Burcham will sign with Oklahoma at 2:15 p.m., Feb. 15.
