Rathan-Mayes scores 55 points in HPrep win
TEAYS VALLEY, W.Va. -- There's a new Canadian member of the 50-point club after Huntington Prep's 121-50 win over Teays Valley Christian tonight.
Florida State-bound guard Xavier Rathan-Mayes erupted for 55 points while adding seven rebounds and seven assists in the victory, marking the second time in the last month a player for the Express has broken the 50-point mark.
Rathan-Mayes, who was up for consideration for the McDonald's All-American Game and the Jordan Brand Classic, but was not selected, connected on 23-of-35 field goal attempts, including eight 3-pointers.
Earlier this month, Andrew Wiggins scored 57 points against Marietta College JV in a game played at Point Pleasant High School.
On Thursday night, Wiggins was hit in the nose on the game's fourth possession and did not return for precautionary reasons, but Rathan-Mayes picked up the scoring load.
Rathan-Mayes led the transition game for Huntington Prep, connecting on 15 of his 17 attempts from inside the arc.
Montaque Gill-Caesar, Moses Kingsley and Carlos Arroyo each had 14 points in the win for Huntington Prep, who hosts its final game of 2012-13 in the Tri-State at 2 p.m. Saturday when the Express takes on United Leadership Academy (Canada) at Boyd County Middle School.
Deskins finished with 22 points while Austin Peyton added 16 for Teays Valley Christian.
