Tolsia's Winnett makes 1st team W.Va. all-state
HUNTINGTON -- Tolsia girls basketball player Savannah Winnett was a Class AA first team selection on the West Virginia Sports Writers Association all-state team.
Winnett averaged 15 points and 11 rebounds a game as a senior.
Chapmanville senior Kristen Desrocher was named to the all-state third team.
All-state honorable mention picks included Jordan Presley from Tolsia and Ashley Curry of Mingo Central.
Hope Lester, a 6-foot junior from Westside who has verbally committed to the Marshall University women's program, was chosen as captain of the all-state first team. Lester had averages of 20 points, 14 rebounds, three blocked shots, four assists and two steals per game for the state champion Renegades.
Westside coach Jamie Lusk used her in the low post and as a guard.
"Hope is still learning the position, but she handles the ball as good as anybody around," Lusk said. "She sees the floor well and she's a great passer. She has a very high basketball IQ."
Fairmont Senior junior Emily Stoller was named as captain of the all-state second team while Keyser junior Lexi Taylor captained the third team.
