Spring Valley defeats Wayne in 10th inning

SPRING VALLEY -- The Spring Valley Timberwolves went 10 innings with Class AA Wayne Thursday, defeating the Pioneers with a walk-off single, 6-5.

Tyler Radcliffe, who started out at catcher and ended up being the winning pitcher, drove in Greg Herbert in the bottom of the 10th to win the game.

Wayne's Kodie Bowen pitched nine innings, striking out 12.

Corey Pancake went 2-5 at the plate for the Pioneers, including a home run.

Tyler Robertson was 2-4 at the plate for the Timberwolves and scored two runs, while Colby Webb went 2-5 and knocked in two. Billy Evans had a solo home run in the fifth inning for Spring Valley.

The Timberwolves host Parkersburg Friday.

SOFTBALL

WINFIELD -- Huntington High and Winfield split a doubleheader in two slugfests, the first of which went extra innings at Winfield Thursday.

The Highlanders (8-14) relied on ace Rachel Bias in the first game, outlasting the Dragons, 9-8, in nine innings.

Madison Howell went 2-4 at the plate with a pair of RBI for Huntington High, while catcher Laura Collins went 3-4, including two doubles and an RBI.

In the second game, Huntington High out-hit Winfield 11-7, but five errors doomed the Highlanders in an 11-10 loss.

Huntington High hosts Hurricane Friday at 6 p.m.
