HHS girls split doubleheader

WINFIELD -- Huntington High and Winfield split a doubleheader in two slugfests, the first of which went extra innings at Winfield Thursday.

The Highlanders (8-14) relied on ace Rachel Bias in the first game, outlasting the Dragons, 9-8, in nine innings.

Madison Howell went 2-4 at the plate with a pair of RBI for Huntington High, while catcher Laura Collins went 3-4, including two doubles and an RBI.

Sophomore Kenna Markham went 3-5 at the plate for the Generals, including an inside-the-park home run, while driving in four runs.

In the second game, Huntington High out-hit Winfield 11-7, but five errors doomed the Highlanders in an 11-10 loss.

Huntington High hosts Hurricane Friday at 6 p.m.
