Huntington High girls win two games

BECKLEY -- Huntington High softball played a Saturday doubleheader against two different teams in Beckley and picked up two mercy rule wins.

In the opening game against Fayetteville, a 9-0 victory for the Highlanders, Leighanna Abbott went 3-for-3 at the plate, hitting two doubles and knocking in three runs. Madison Howell pitched the game for the Huntington High, which only lasted four innings.

With Rachel Bias on the mound in the second contest against Woodrow Wilson, Howell was a handful in the batters box, going 4-for-4 with 7 RBIs in a 17-3 win that lasted five innings. Huntington High out-hit the Flying Eagles 12 to 3 in the contest.

The Highlanders (10-15) play at Chesapeake Monday at 5:30.

ST. JOE SWEEPS: Jennifer Sang had five hits and 13 RBIs for Huntington St. Joe in a doubleheader sweep at Teays Valley Christian.

St. Joe won 12-2 and 14-4.

Sang was 2-for-3 in the first game with a triple and six RBIs. She was also the winning pitcher.

Samantha Brickett was 3-for-4 while Chelsea Gale and Elizabeth Mays both added two hits. Gale had a pair of RBIs.

Sang was 3-for-3 in game two with a grand slam home run and seven RBIs. Mays, Abigail Turner and Victoria Peyton each had three hits. Brickett and Gale, the winning pitcher, both had two hits. Gale also had three RBIs.

St. Joe (8-8) plays again at 5 p.m., Monday, at Hannan.

BASEBALL

SPRING VALLEY -- Joey Mundy went 2-for-3 at the plate and had three RBIs for Huntington High in a 10-3 baseball victory Saturday at Spring Valley.

Jack Brunetti was also 2-for-3 for the Highlanders and drove in two runs.

Ben Gibson pitched into the fifth inning for Huntington High. Ben Haikal and Chase Ashworth closed the game out.

Tyler Robertson was 2-for-3 for the Timberwolves while Alex Combs had a double and 2 RBIs.
